Book Tour: "Masquerade" by Felicity Heaton Character Interview & Giveaway

I'm ecstatic today because I have author Felicity Heaton here on her book tour for her new book "Masqerade". She is one of my favorite authors. I have really enjoyed all the books I've read by her and I'm sure "Masquerade" will be no different. Felicity is sharing a interview she did with Vivek the hero of "Masqerade" and she is also going to be giving away a signed, personalized copy of "Hunter's Moon" with some signed swag.

It’s wonderful to be here again at Romance Book Junkies for the next stop on the book tour for my new vampire romance, Masquerade. Masquerade is the tenth book in my ongoing Vampires Realm romance series. Don’t worry if you haven’t read the others, as Masquerade does stand alone.

Today, I’m going to be interviewing the hero of Masquerade. Vivek is a guard of the Venia bloodline and was once the trainer and mentor of the heroine, Sophis, until a night that drove a wedge between them. He’s headstrong, determined to succeed in the guard and prove himself, and would do anything to protect those he loves and cares about. I managed to catch up with him a few months after the end of his love story.

FH: Before I start this interview, I promised Sophis that I would wear a steel collar so you couldn’t tear my throat out with your fangs. *clamps it around her neck*

VIVEK: *raises an eyebrow* I take it we are going to cover old ground again?

FH: You know you’ll never hear the end of it, so put on your big boy pants and deal with it. Now that I feel a little safer, I’ll introduce you to the readers. I have Vivek here with me today to talk about his book, Masquerade. Firstly, can you tell us a little about yourself?

VIVEK: I am annoyed.

FH: I can’t help that, but you can help me, and answer the question properly.

VIVEK: A puny steel collar would not stop me from killing you if I chose to do it.

FH: No, but Sophis would find out, and she would probably kick your butt and then leave you. So, if you like your life the way it is now, play nice. My question is now a command. Tell us about yourself.

VIVEK: I am a vampire of the Venia bloodline and a captain of the guard. I am approaching one hundred and fifty years old and I was born in Russia. I speak Russian, English, Czech, Polish and Latvian. I am loyal to my bloodline and would sacrifice myself to protect my family.

FH: You mentioned your age, which reminded me of something. Your sire is male.

VIVEK: And? *sighs* I suppose you mean to insinuate that I may have had a relationship with him. Very amusing. I have never slept with my sire. You would do well to remove your mind from the gutter.

FH: It’s just so difficult. I see you, reclining there in your uniform, collar undone... looking sort of hot... and then I think about your sire being a man, and images just pop into my head. A lot of vampires have intimate relationships with their sires at some point in their lives.

VIVEK: *growls* Not this vampire, so drop the subject already. My answer will not change. I have never, and will never sleep with my sire. I am grateful for the gift that he gave to me, and we are friends, but that is as far as it goes.

FH: Fine. I will move on, although you might regret it. In Masquerade, you fall in love with Sophis. You’ve known her a long time but can you tell us how you met and how you felt about her initially?

VIVEK: I remember the day that Sophis first set foot in the mansion with her sire, newly turned, weak... mesmerising. I rarely saw her back then. We moved in very different circles because of her sire. When she joined the guard, I took care of her training and we began to spend time with each other, sparring and such. She was a wonderful student. Far better than Seth. The man has the attention span of a gnat.

FH: I think you just don’t like him that much. *he shrugs* Your relationship with Sophis is complicated because of something that happened in your past. Can you tell us about that?

VIVEK: I knew this would come up.

FH: It is rather central to your romance, so please answer the question.

VIVEK: Fine. I was on patrol with Sophis and we ended up fighting Aleksis and Izabella Romanov, two very powerful hunters. Aleksis stabbed Sophis in the gut and all I could do was hold her as she bled out. She was too damn young. I never should have signed off on her training. If I hadn’t, she wouldn’t have almost died. She would have been safe.

FH: So you’ve felt responsible for what happened to her ever since then, and things degenerated between you. You lost the friendship you had once shared, and at the start of your book, you two are close to losing each other forever because of that night. But it’s not all doom and gloom. The events that happen in Masquerade bring you back together. Can you tell us about what happened in your story?

VIVEK: As you said, we were on the edge of destroying what little remained of our friendship. *I glare at him* Fine. Perhaps I was on the edge of destroying it... but I only had her best interests at heart and feared she would meet a terrible end if she remained with the guard. She almost proved me right with her reckless behaviour, leaping into a fight with a hunter without her team and foolishly without ensuring the hunter was alone. She might have been killed.

FH: But she wasn’t. That night you saved her life again, and it took you both back to a decade ago and your fight against Aleksis and Izabella. Maybe it was exactly what you both needed.

VIVEK: It was certainly what I needed. That and what followed afterwards, with Aleksis and Izabella showing up in our city again. It made me think about everything that had happened and, yes, I realised that perhaps I had approached a few things in the wrong way, but I made amends.

FH: And about time too. How has life been since the events that happened and brought you together?

VIVEK: We’ve both been working very hard with the guard to get everything back into order in the house but we find time for each other. I’ve been training Sophis together with Seth and Ella, and everything is beginning to feel as it was ten years ago... only better because now we are together.

FH: Your story, Masquerade, is a book in a series. Can you tell us a little about the series and can we expect see more of you in other stories in this series?

VIVEK: Yes, I think you’ll see us again. I’ve heard rumours that you’ll be writing a novel for Tynan in the future, so I am sure you will catch up with us again then. As for the world I live in, it is a dark and dangerous place, and while the hunters have been dealt a blow, they will come back. We can kill hundreds but if we do not destroy the organisations behind them, they will never be eradicated. That is a mission I would dearly love to be sent on. I feel I still have a score to settle with the bastards.

FH: I can imagine. Describe yourself in one word?

VIVEK: Intense. Sophis tells me that, although she often means it in a way meant to tell me that I need to lighten up.

FH: Thank you for meeting with me today and chatting. Is there anything else that you’d like to add?

VIVEK: Thank you for interviewing me. I am now going to find the interview you did with Sophis and then afterwards I shall be questioning her about it, perhaps whilst naked in bed.

FH: A little too much information. Run along then. I’m sure Sophis will enjoy your interrogation. Oh, and thank you for not biting me. You really are a gentleman. Who knew?

Masquerade
F E Heaton
Ten years have passed since Sophis and Vivek, two vampires of the Venia bloodline, came close to death at the hands of twin hunters Aleksis and Izabella Romanov. The events of that night turned Sophis and Vivek against each other, shattering their close friendship and driving them apart.

Now, on the eve of a centenary Creator Day masquerade and at a time when things between them are dangerously close to separating them forever, they uncover a small army of vampire hunters in Saint Petersburg, led by their nemeses, Aleksis and Izabella.

With the safety of the rulers of the seven pure vampire bloodlines in their hands and their chance for vengeance hanging in the balance, can Sophis and Vivek face their past and overcome their differences? Will they realise their true feelings for each other before it’s too late or will the hunters finally claim their lives as their deadly plot to destroy the bloodlines unfolds?

Hunter's Moon
F E Heaton

The horror of the night he failed to save his werewolf pack from the cruelty of their vampire masters has haunted Nicolae for one hundred years, driving him deep into the Canadian wilderness in search of peace. That peace is threatened when unfamiliar hunters and the scent of blood lead him to a beautiful woman and a hard decision—face his past and help her or risk losing everyone he cares about again.

Bearing a heart filled with grief and with vengeance on her mind, Tatyana is intent on killing the hunters she’s tracking and returning to her vampire bloodline, but her plan didn’t include being shot with poisoned arrows or rescued by a glowering alpha werewolf who stirs forbidden hunger in her.

When the hunters make their move, will Nicolae be able to stop them before it’s too late? Will he be able to overcome the darkness in his heart and embrace his desire for a vampire? And can Tatyana face her fears and risk her life for the sake of forbidden love?

Yes, I survived the interview unscathed. I don't think Sophis would let him off if he laid a claw on me! Plus, he'd have others in the series after him too. I'm the property of Lord Hyperion after all.

Thanks for all the fantastic comments so far, and for following along on this tour. There are many more posts to come yet! I'm just glad you're all getting to know Vivek better :)
