Three Little Kittens
who Lost Their Way
I think one of the
saddest days in my life was the day our seventeen-year-old cat, Nefertiti, had
to leave us to go to cat heaven. My late husband and I sat in the parking lot
at the vet’s and bawled like babies. Our hearts were broken. And for weeks
after that the house was so incredibly empty. It was very depressing.
Finally we couldn’t stand
it any more so we decided to go to the local animal rescue shelter and adopt
another kitty. On the way onto town we discussed the possibility of getting two
cats instead of one, so they’d be able to play with each other. Black cats,
just like Nefertiti. My husband dropped me off at the grocery store and went to
scope out the shelter. When he came back to pick me up he said, “What would you
think about one white cat and one black one?”
“I’m open to
suggestions,” I told him.
Back at the shelter they
ladies handed us the two kittens he’d been so taken with, the white one and the
black one. I was hold the white one kin my arms and just off my right shoulder
a little torty was perched on a shelf. With the flick of a whisker she umped
into my arms, right on tip of the white kitty, and began licking my chin. How
could I leave her? I mean, really.
So home we went, with
three tiny kittens, six weeks old, mewing in our ears. And from that day on
they have ruled the house. Grace, Blanca and Bast definitely have their own way
here. Grace gets special snacks twice a day to clean her teeth and if I’m late
putting them out she parks herself right by my desk chair and scolds me until I
get her treat. Bast loves to sit at my computer with me while I write (she’s
the smallest one) and sometimes even drapes herself over my arms.
At night when I get into
bed they hop up with me and cuddle around me, providing me the comfort I need
since my husband passed away. They are my friends, my companions and the babies
of my heart. And this year two of them even made it into Morris the Cat’s
calendar.
I can’t say enough good
things about the animal shelter. We don’t have nearly enough no-kill shelters.
If you have one in your town, please support it. And check out their guests.
You might find some cuddly heart stoppers just like I did.

Main Giveaway:
Hello Everyone! We have a lot of blogs that have gotten together to help raise money for a great cause. There are going to be some awesome prizes up for grabs for people that donate money to the cause. Here is a little about the company that we are raising the money for:
Paws
With A Cause® enhances the independence and quality of life for people
with disabilities nationally through custom-trained Assistance Dogs.
PAWS®
increases awareness of the rights and roles of Assistance Dog teams
through education and advocacy. Founded in 1979, Paws With A Cause is
dedicated to helping its clients who are challenged by many
disabilities,
such as Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy, Seizure Disorders, and
Hearing Disorders to name just some. Each of our dogs are trained to
meet the specific needs of our clients. Tasks may include opening and
closing doors, picking up objects, pulling a wheelchair,
turning lights on and off, and alerting a person to particular sounds
like a telephone, doorbell, smoke detector and many others. Our dogs
change lives by enhancing the independence of our clients. By just
opening a door, a dog opens up the world for a person
with a disability and your donations will go to making that happen.
PAWS thanks you so much for your donation and allowing us to open more
doors.
