Guest Post: "Solar Storm" by Mina Carter

I’d like to start off by saying thank you to Danielle for hosting me today, and letting me rabbit on about one of my favourite subjects.

I’m talking about soldiers. I come from a military family, so the men and women that make up the services are near and dear to my heart and I love to write about them. Admittedly I’m more of a sci-fi, paranormal type of gal, so normally my soldiers tend to be something futuristic like the hero of my latest release, Solar Storm.

Kelwin Sayeed is a former soldier. Altered and enhanced for war, he and others like him have been put out to pasture now that they are no longer needed. Trouble is, they’re not good at retirement. Gardening? No thanks, unless it’s landscaping with explosives. Fishing? Same thing applies with the explosives. High orbit base jumping? Otarian Terror-shark wrestling? Now you’re talking.
Or solar sailing. Quite possibly the most dangerous profession in the known galaxy after being a Soldier, some say solar sailors are born on the decks of their ships, the roads seeping into their veins from the very moment of their births. Its high risk, high octane and high adrenalin stuff. Just the sort of adrenalin rush Kelwin needs.
Trouble is...he can’t sail for toffee.

She’s the one who got away. Now she’s uncharted territory…
Ten years after rich-girl life fell apart, Rhys Devin is a changed woman—her name, her face, and her attitude. Now the fast-talking, hard-as-nails captain of the Grey Lady sails the most dangerous solar roads in the universe. Times are tough, but she gets the job done, sailing alone. Always watching over her shoulder.
The last thing she needs is a delay, but when she runs across a stranded sailor, she has no choice. The law of the road demands she rescue him.
Kelwin Sayeed is a soldier without a war. The retired War Commander’s latest and most ambitious hobby, the solar flyer Artemis, was supposed to prove him worthy of the famously reclusive Solar Sailors. Instead a catastrophic computer failure has him at the mercy of the most hazardous road of all; Icaria.
Confident he won’t be left to die in the golden spray, he waits for another sailor to come along. One that’s born and bred to the roads, with skin wizened like beaten gold. What he gets is a woman whose voice does things to his body that should be illegal. Whose golden-tinted skin sparks erotic fantasies.
The bride who ran from him a decade ago…

Mina Carter was born and raised in Middle Earth (otherwise known as the Midlands, England). After a slew of careers ranging from logistics to land-surveying she can now be found in the wilds of Leicestershire with her husband, daughter and a cat who moved in and never left.
Suffering the curse of eternal curiosity Mina never tires of learning new skills which has led to Aromatherapy, Corsetry, Chain-maille making, Welding, Canoeing, Shooting, and pole-dancing to name but a few.
A full time author and cover artist, Mina can usually be found hunched over a keyboard or graphics tablet, frantically trying to get the images and words in her head out and onto the screen before they drive her mad. She's addicted to coffee and Nutella on toast.
