Goodreads Blurb: “She who wields the mark is the barrier between man and monster. She is the daughter of gods, the mother of man, protector of all. Vigilati Usque Ad Mortem”

All Isla Macallen wanted was a simple existence on her little Scottish island, free from her mother’s insanity and the prying eyes of neighbors. What she got was embroiled in a war for the souls of mankind. A war of good versus evil, of witches versus demons, and Isla learns that she alone can end it.

Dr. Jeremiah Rousseau was a self-proclaimed nomad, traveling the world researching paranormal phenomena. He doesn’t expect his research to lead him to Scotland, and to the woman who will turn his world upside down.

Together with a facetious shapeshifting animal spirit guide, Jeremiah and Isla discover that she is part of an ancient bloodline bred to protect the gateways between the human world and the spirit world, to keep evil demons from destroying them. They must find the key to defeating Alastore, the demon king, and closing the gate before Samhain, when the veil between the worlds is lifted. As the war for their souls wages around them, Isla and Jeremiah will risk it all for love—a love neither had ever thought possible.

My Review: WOW! There’s was a ton going on in this story, all of it very exciting and original. A very different paranormal read with different elements from what we would normally see in a paranormal romance. A definite must read for all paranormal romance fans that crave something different.

Jeremiah is one of the most magnificent male characters I've ever met! Strong, mysterious, intelligent, kind, handsome, brave and I can keep going on and on, he’s just that great! No stranger to the paranormal, he’s studied it practically his entire life and investigating, solving and proving are all part of his job. Having no choice but to follow his superior’s orders and take a break from working and take a vacation, he finds himself in a place that is chin deep in paranormal happenings. When he meets a woman that he feels an irresistible pull toward, he does not resist and finds himself willing to do anything for her, even sacrifice his own life.

Isla has lived a very hard life; such a rough childhood that it brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it. Thankfully she is one VERY strong woman that has not only beauty, but brains and brawn that help make her one amazing woman. She now has a new reality to face and much to learn. If she does not, harm and death will come to many. She’s determined to do the right thing and having Jeremiah and her amazing friends by her side bring her just what she needs. Strength and love, the forever kind ;)

You'll find yourself so engaged that you'll feel as if you are a part of the story yourself. Love the two main characters and their instant chemistry. They are amazing together in so many ways and I wish there was more, now!
