GoodReads Blurb:
Merit, Chicago’s newest vampire, is learning how to play well with others. Other supernaturals, that is. Shapeshifters from across the country are convening in the Windy City, and as a gesture of peace, Master Vampire Ethan Sullivan has offered their leader a very special bodyguard: Merit. Merit is supposed to protect the Alpha, Gabriel Keene—and to spy for the vamps while she’s at it. Oh, and luckily Ethan’s offering some steamy, one-on-one combat training sessions to help her prepare for the mission.

Merit must accept the assignment, even though she knows that she’ll probably regret it. And she’s not wrong. Someone is gunning for Gabriel Keene, and Merit soon finds herself in the line of fire. She’ll need all the help she can get to track down the would-be assassin, but everywhere she turns, there are rising tensions between supernaturals—not least between her and a certain green-eyed, centuries old master vampire.

Darcy's Review:
Merit is back and this time around she is taking a lot of hits, all due to our favorite Master Vampire. Still in a bad spot with Mallory and trying to find her way among her new life, Merit doesn't have the support system she needs when she finally does what she has both wanted to and avoided with the same strength. It is funny how a major blow to you will heal what needs healing.

I was glad to see Merit find new friends among her house, it lead to some great scenes and gave her the support when she needed it the most.

I also loved the shifter aspects to this book. We got a very in depth view of them in this world and how they worked. I also have some new favorite characters that I hope stay around.

Merit and Ethan seem to always be at odds and this book is no different. I really like Merit for both decisions she made with Ethan, but really respect her for the last one she made in reference to their relationship. I just hope she sticks to it.

I can't wait for the next book!
