Caught in a frustrating relationship with a man who can't accept her for who she is, passionate, flame-haired violinist Summer finds release in her music. She spends her afternoons busking on the underground, lost in the works of Vivaldi or Mendelssohn. When her violin is damaged beyond repair, Summer receives a surprising proposition from Dominik, a university professor with powerful desires, who has been captivated by Summer ever since he heard her perform. Dominik will replace her priceless violin, but only if she agrees to play for him in a private concert.

Unable to deny the chemistry between them, Dominik and Summer embark on an intense affair full of daring twists and turns, as unpredictable as it is thrilling. For Summer it is a chance to finally embrace her long-denied dark side, but she'll soon learn that where there's pleasure must come pain. And can a relationship born of such all-consuming passion, ever really survive?

Definitely a different type of BDSM read for me. I feel the only common aspect Eighty Days Yellow has with Fifty Shades of Grey is the BDSM angle. Otherwise I saw no other in common and would not dare to compare the two. Two completely different type’s altogether and both enjoyable reads in their own way, I actually found Eighty Days Yellow to have more dark aspects to it and was very harsh at times and (if half rating were permitted) would rate it at 3 ½, but since that’s not an option I rounded it to a solid 4. I do not recommend this book to everyone. But those who like to venture into the BDSM scene, are not looking for a romance and do not mind a darker side of it will find it to be a real page turner.

Summer currently finds herself in a unsatisfying relationship and struggles daily just to make ends meet. She plays her violin whenever she can. In train stations, bars, clubs theaters and any other way she can make some money or just get to play her life’s passion. One day while playing in a station her and her violin get caught in a bit of a scuffle and her dear violin gets destroyed. Unknowing to her the story made it into the local paper and was seen by an admirer. One day while checking her email she gets a private message stating that they (the admirer) wants to replace her loss and meet up with her. Feeling she has nothing to lose she meets this admirer and that’s when everything changes for her.

Dominik is a professor in a local college. He does not work because he needs to, but because he enjoys it, gives him a sense of purpose and he gets to share his knowledge with others. Dominik is a very alpha male, he’s not quite a Dom, but has many Dom qualities. At times he is afraid to let that side of himself out but holding it in makes him angry and less like himself. Meeting Summer brings out more of those dominant parts and he begins to crave her, but at the same time he feels a need to distance themselves from one another. Can you say hot in cold in a flash? Only time will tell which way he will go.

I enjoyed all of the characters in this story (mostly, some males had me wanting to slap some sense into them). I felt the lack of a safe word to be a cruel attribute towards the sub in this story. Any BDSM scene has a safe word. Even if it’s the basic green, yellow and red to properly control the situation and make sure both parties have the true enjoyment they seek. Even in this life style there is a choice. Summer needs to realize that little fact and she'll be good to go. I hope to see her growth in the next of the series :)
