Halloween Spooktacular Day 16

First of all I want to say thank you to Danielle for inviting me to take part in ‘Halloween Spooktacular’ over at Romance Book Junkies.

Halloween is no doubt one of my favorite times of the year, as I love all things spooky and supernatural. The early history of Halloween tells us of the Roman feast of Pomona and the Celtic festival of Samhain.  These celebrations of Halloween marked the end of the summer season and the coming of winter.  According to traditional folktales this day is also when ghosts and other creatures could pass through the veil between the living and the dead.  Halloween is still celebrated traditionally by some in addition to popular activities (which take their inspiration from original celebrations) and include dressing up in Halloween costumes, ‘Halloween Parties’ or ‘trick or treat’.

This year I’m planning a ‘Halloween scary movie night’ and have decided on the tradition Halloween colors of black and orange for the theme.  I’m not sure about what costume I’ll be wearing but I will be attempting to make orange and black cupcakes and other treats!

I’ve always loved scary movies and books, even the kind that caused me to have nightmares.  I’m not sure what I’ll be watching for my ‘movie night’ but it will be some of  the less scary movies e.g. ‘The Lost Boys’, ‘Fright Night’ (the original), 'Pan's Labyrinth' and the good old fashioned black & white film titles like ‘Dracula’.   Can you believe that one of the movies I’ll never watch again is actually called ‘Halloween’!  I’m not sure why this movie scares me so and I’m sure I’ve seen scarier movies, but even the movie theme tune gives me the chills and I was convinced that ‘Michael Myers’ was coming for me when I watched this many years ago ;-)  What plans do you have for Halloween and what are your favorite scary movies?

As an artisan of jewelery and accessories, Halloween is also a time I look forward to because it is a great time for making Halloween, Gothic and dark fairytale designs.  My favorite Halloween design I’ve made most recently is this Keepsake ‘Trick or Treat’ altered art box.  I also made matching tags and found the perfect mini witches broom from my local craft shop.   I’m currently working on cute Halloween purses too.

Part of this blog post includes a giveaway and you’ve probably guessed that the giveaway from Miss Bohemia is Halloween related!  I have created a ‘Halloween creepy charm bracelet’ full of charms including a skeleton, witch, RIP tombstone, ghost, raven, spider, pumpkin and an array of black and red beads.  I have also created a pair of ‘Halloween pumpkin earrings’.  These 2 Halloween themed pieces of jewelery can be yours by entering this giveaway (open worldwide) hosted by Danielle.

I wish you all a Happy Halloween!

Jen (Miss Bohemia)
