Spooktacular Day 16: Spooky Interview & Giveaway with author Jessica Subject

What kind of Halloween person are you? Dress up and party every year, give out candy maybe dressed up, or hide inside your house with the porch light off?

I usually had out candy to the neighborhood kids while my husband takes our own kids out. Last year though, we reversed roles. Not sure what will happen this year. When I do dress up, it’s for my husband, when the kids are in bed. ;-)

Do you decorate outside for Halloween?

We decorate inside for Thanksgiving (in Canada, it’s in October) and Halloween with a Fall theme. Outside, no. We’ll have a pumpkin on the porch when the kids are trick-or-treating, but outside decorations are often destroyed in the middle of the night.

Are you a master pumpkin carver?

No. LOL I leave that job to my husband and daughter. They love to do the carving.

Name 3 costumes you’ve worn and at what age.

When I was five, I was a ghost. My mom bought a beautiful princess costume for me, but I screamed and refused to wear it. So, instead, she cut holes in a white bed sheet and sent me out trick-or-treating with the sheet over my head. I was a witch for many years in a row, and last year I dressed up as a nurse.

Find a picture of a costume you love.

Here are two costumes I love:

Tell us the scariest thing that has ever happened to you and it doesn’t have to be Halloween related.

I lived out in the country in an old farmhouse surrounded by corn fields when I decided to watch the movie Signs. I was terrified of aliens for years after that. And yes, I write about sexy aliens now. It’s been my therapy. :D

Do you like haunted houses or mazes?

Mazes are a lot of fun, but haven’t been in a good haunted house since I was a child.

Do you believe in ghosts?

Yes, I’ve seen many, though they’ve all been those of animals and not people.

What is your favorite Halloween tradition?

As a kid, I would always watch the music video for Thriller by Michael Jackson before going out trick-or-treating.

Freddy Krueger or Jason Voorhees?

Since Elm Street was just around the corner from me growing up, I would have to say Freddy Krueger.

What’s your favorite Urban Legend?

The movie, Urban Legend. LOL Went to see it with my roommates from university because one of them was in the movie as an extra.

Cursed to live amongst several stone gargoyle statues, Oscar watches a young couple, yearning to participate in their sexual activities. For he has been away from his own lovers for over a year, and longs to touch and be touched again.

When he tumbles off the headboard onto the couple, he is released from the statue but must find a way home. His only thought: a ménage with the man and woman who freed him. But will they try something new to grant him his return passage, or leave him wandering Earth alone?

Great interview! My best Halloween costume would a been when I dressed up as a witch. A friend of mine let me borrow her witch hat and help me with the makeup. Wish I had a picture to share, but didn't think about taking a picture at that time. I've seen a lot of costumes that I line now days, but never really decided which I would like best.

My most favorite costume I've ever worn to date is Sally (from Nightmare Before Christmas). My husband and I dressed the part and had a blast with it!

I thought I was the only one who avoided the whole princess stage. The book sounds fab.

Taryn - Hehe. Thanks! I have a picture of my brother dressed up exactly the same way. LOL

Ava - That sounds awesome! Would love to have seen those costumes. :)

Patricia - Thank you! No, I don't ever remember being into Princesses. Though I did like "The Paperbag Princess." :)

Best Halloween costume would be my nephew's 'cereal' killer..Gluing boxes of cereal on and dribbling blood down the boxes and carrying a bloody knife.
Looking forward to reading this book.

The book sounds sexy. Great interview! Hmmm. I have to say my best Halloween costume was a Michael Jackson bunny lol I already had a white glove and a black fedora hat. I just painted on whiskers, glued on a pom pom for my tail and added bunny ears. I moonhop the night away ;)

I have to admit the most spooktacular costume I have ever seen was from a Star Trek exhibition. The Borg were there and WOW these folks looked so real that I got the shivers. One walked right up to me and it was instant fright night. Thank you for sharing with us today and for all the fun :)
